How Much Will It Cost?
At the York Locksmith Company, it’s all about transparency and upfront pricing. I charge £80 for a job between Monday & Friday, 8am-6pm, and £90 on Saturdays. Sundays, bank holidays and out-of-hours calls are £120.
Each of the prices listed excludes the cost for subsequent hours or parts. As standard, I don’t charge VAT – even during peak hours – which saves you 20% in tax. For more information, head to the pricing page.
How Quickly Can You Arrive?
It depends on the nature of your problem and the demand for my services on the day. I aim to get to non-urgent jobs within 48 hours, but will fast-track emergencies whenever they come in. If you need a rapid response, just give me a call – I’ll get to you within an hour to resolve the problem.
What Hours Do I Work?
As a 24/7 locksmith, I understand that you can’t plan for emergency situations, no matter how prepared you feel. As such, I’m available all year round and at any time, including bank holidays and Christmas!
How Far Do You Go from York?
I don’t just serve the city of York; in my van, I can reach the wider York area so long as you fall within a 30-minute radius. That includes Malton, Pocklington, Market Weighton, Easingwold, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Selby, Tadcaster and the surrounding areas.
Can You Open Safes?
It depends on the model of your safe. If it has a twisty combination lock, which many cheap domestic safes use, my answer is a no. But, if you have a large, old-fashioned safe, I’m happy to give picking it a go – sometimes they’re quite the challenge, but very rewarding to crack!
Do You Break the Lock to Gain Access to Buildings?
I never damage doors when I’m out on the job, but sometimes it’s necessary to drill the lock – when it’s properly broken, especially old, or clogged with product (top tip: avoid using WD-40!). I aim to pick locks wherever possible, usually in the case of lock-outs or one faulty lock component.
Can You Fix uPVC Doors Mechanisms?
Yes – and I can do it fast! 99% of faulty uPVC doors are solved with a replacement gearbox and a bit of lubrication & TLC.
What About Padlocks?
If you’ve lost a key or your padlock has malfunctioned, I can help you out. Sometimes, these are child’s play to pick – in that case, it’ll be a quick job to regain access. However, in other cases, the lock is much trickier to deal with. In the latter circumstances, I tend to crop them, given that it’s much cheaper to replace the lock (especially if you’ve lost the keys) than spend lots of time picking it.
Do You Do Car Locks?
Sadly, not. You’ll have to go to a dedicated auto locksmith to help with your vehicle.
